I’m sharing this #movementmoment as a peek into my process. This was the end of one long take as I tried to push through. It is evident in my movement where I lost the groove and started to get in my head. Body was tired, and I didn’t listen. I tried to keep going regardless. This was a small moment that was ultimately not harmful, but important to witness it with such clarity after the fact. I find it valuable to have these moments to reflect on as I continue to grow deeper in my relationship to Body and Dancer. The limits may be subtle, and this helps me hear those messages even clearer. #dancer #danceridentity #returntodancew
This #movementmoment is all about shoulders and percussion. This song makes me not just *want* to move, but *have* to move. My shoulders always pulse along to the beat, adding a little shimmy here and there. Although not polished, this is a time I was really being lead by the music, getting lost in my own movement, allowing my Body to express the way she wanted to, not the way I wanted her to. #dancer #danceridentity #returntodance

In part 2 of this #writingwarmup I take the exploration of hip movement and begin to change direction. Sometimes when writing, I get too locked into a particular perspective. (When I record my warm ups, I’m often literally locked into the camera’s view.) Often I need a literal shift in perspective in order to shake up my writing. Another “Return to the Studio” update: This is a combination learned across my first 3 Heels/Jazz classes. This is a style that doesn’t feel as natural in my body, and makes my brain work a little harder. But I’m continuing to expand what is comfortable and find joy in the challenge. This #writingwarmup (part 1) focused on releasing my hips. I know I have a lot of creative energy that lives in my hips and pelvis. And sitting at a desk keeps my lower half locked in place. So I am paying more attention to the lower half of my body, moving it more, releasing it more. It often feels awkward and unfamiliar and yet very necessary, which helps me embrace the discomfort.
